A Message From the Athletic Department

Welcome to the Live Oak Acorns Athletics. It is the philosophy of the Athletic Department that participation in athletics is an integral part of the educational process.  Athletics teach us many “life lessons” such as dedication and commitment, self-discipline, competition, teamwork, sportsmanship, dealing with success as well as overcoming adversity.  These “life lessons” are the true value of high school athletics.  Our coaches believe in this philosophy and see themselves as instrumental in its implementation.  The fields and courts are used as classrooms where these “life lessons” can be taught in an environment where student motivation is high.  Live Oak High School has a rich and deep tradition of quality programs on the athletic fields and in the classrooms.  We are proud of the fact that with their strong Acorn roots many of our former student-athletes have used these “life lessons” to become outstanding and distinguished community members in our society.

The top priority of our Athletic Department is to promote proper sportsmanship as it relates to student-athletes, coaches, parents/guardians, and spectators.  Sportsmanship is an honorable quality that we all must take part in.  We must show respect to the opponent and officials, know, understand, and appreciate the rules of the game, maintain self-control, and recognize and appreciate skill in performance regardless of affiliation.  We must refrain from any behavior that is demeaning to the opponent, officials, and other spectators.

Live Oak is a member of the Blossom Valley Athletic League (B.V.A.L.). The B.V.A.L. has the reputation of being one of the sections most competitive leagues and we are thrilled to be a part of it.  The league consists of 24 schools separated into 3 divisions of eight schools. The B.V.A.L. is one of 11 leagues and Live Oak is one of 130 schools in the Central Coast Section (C.C.S.) that stretches from San Francisco in the north to King City in the south.

Finally, a big thank you to the Live Oak Athletic Booster Club.  This great organization has helped all of our student-athletes over the years with thousands of dollars of financial support to continue the strong programs and facilities we enjoy at Live Oak.  But more than the thousands of dollars the Boosters have raised, it is their commitment, dedication and tireless devotion to our student-athletes that make it a first class organization.  The Athletic Department and the Acorn student-athletes appreciate the Boosters support immensely.  I strongly encourage you to not only join, but to be an active member of this worthwhile organization.  Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the school library.
